ABOUT:
Ap Ducal’s oscillating and cinematic album “U” now with each track remixed by four separate Chilean musicians, situated across the globe. Sculpting new layers and shapes into the music, each bringing their own interpretation and aura into the process. The result is an intriguing and hypnotic weaving of alternate perspectives, different motions, new dimensions, yet with sonic threads still in dialogue with its original.
Release Date: 27 February 2026.
HISTORY:
Ap Ducal began in 2012 as the independent musical project of Camilo Palma, based on improvised live sessions, atmospheric textures and certain kinds of soundtrack music. Palma has been a band member in Mutrone (Le Rock Psicophonique), Fulin Lawen (ETCS Records) and a live band member in Föllakzoid (Sacred Bones).
AP DUCAL INTERVIEW BY WEISSKALT:
1. How are you approaching these tracks, what ideas are you exploring with these arrangements?
I’m not entirely sure how to answer that question, since being a remix album, the ideas really come from the guest artists and musicians. In that sense, I think the most important thing to say is that they all had complete creative freedom. They only received the original stems of each track in WAV format and worked directly on them however they wanted.
From what they’ve shared with me, something that came up a lot was that there was very little addition of new sounds — most of the work focused on reshaping, distorting, and intervening in the existing material of each track. I find that very interesting because, rather than imposing something new, creativity was about finding new ways to work with what’s already there.
2. What would you consider to be the highlight(s) of this project?
For me, the highlight is the response of the musicians — their willingness to create something new and to approach the invitation with an open, unprejudiced attitude. That, to me, translates into a kind of naïve hope, because I feel this way of doing things is becoming increasingly rare. It makes me proud of the people I worked with on this project.
I’ve been invited before to remix tracks from friends’ bands (Terapia Familiar, Intermitentes), and my way of responding back then was very similar. I deeply believe in this way of working — though I don’t think it’s the only way, hence the “naïve” part.
3. When and where were these remixes done?
In Paris and Berlin between August and December 2025. The four guest musicians are Chileans living in these cities — artists I deeply admire. People like Andrés Bucci (Berlin) and Memo Dumay (Paris), who have historically been strong influences on me throughout their careers.
With Itesa (Daniel Bande), we share a long-standing friendship and a kind of parallel universe we’ve inhabited for years. It feels like great luck that we both ended up living in Berlin now, able to do this and other projects together.
In the case of BiKH, it’s a newer connection — one of those people who suddenly appear in your life and gradually become someone fresh and relevant in every sense.
4. Any gear / techniques worth mentioning?
5. What is the inspiration behind Untitled Rhythm?
It’s a track I made in Chile before selling my entire studio and moving to Berlin. It’s built on the absolute simplicity of heavily using an old drum machine I had — an ACETONE Rhythm Ace FR-2L from 1967, which I think has some of the best low-end sounds ever produced by a drum machine. I combined it with some effect pedals as a phaser and an RE-202 reverb echo. I made it because I had never explored its sound on its own before, and I felt I owed myself that chance — just for the pleasure of hearing its full capacity. It’s a personal fetish, in a way.
